In the 1930s and ’40s, the Link “Blue Box” flight trainer changed aviation forever. It let pilots rehearse instrument flying, emergencies, and complex procedures safely on the ground—logging meaningful hours before they ever left the runway. We celebrate icons like Group Captain Douglas Bader—an RAF ace whose grit and standards inspired generations—not because they were “naturally gifted,” but because they embodied a ruthless commitment to preparation. The RAF around him institutionalized that mindset with the Link Trainer and other synthetic devices to keep pilots sharp between sorties.
